A torrential downpour saw our beautifully levelled track, bank and path system turn into a quagmire, at which point the JCB dug up and broke the main water supply to the house

Sam in Malawi
Sam developed a passion for engineering before he started at Cambridge University: His three month trip to Namibia with the Raleigh Expedition provided him with a solid foundation for understanding construction methods and processes, particularly in Africa.
Whilst at University, he spent 10 weeks per academic year working for Parkman Ltd, mainly within the Bridges Section. His role included work on maintenance contracts and large scale design.
After graduating from Queens' College Cambridge with an MEng MA in 2005, Sam began working fo Buro Happold, in the London office. He has become particularly interested in sustainability and architectural design, and is respected for his common-sense approach to complex problems. He has worked on a number of exciting projects, including the Woolwich Civic Centre (where he was Job Leader), and a new college building for the City of Westminster College.
In January 2010, Sam embarked on an 11 month trip to Malawi, to work with the Krizevac project. His role will be varied, and will include helping building new sports facilities, and an environmentally friendly hydra-form block making system. To read more about his trip, click here.
