RedR-UK Register of Engineers for Disaster Relief

The Happold Trust is proud to be sponsors of RedR-UK, an international charity that trains relief workers and provides skilled professionals to humanitarian programmes worldwide.

Following the Vietnamese Boat People crisis in 1980 which saw an unprecedented exodus of people to many countries in Southeast Asia, Peter Guthrie saw the need for a system for the deployment of engineers to disasters, and established RedR (Register of Engineers for Disaster Relief).

Over the last 30 years it has grown into an international organisation, which has deployed over 2,500 experts to worldwide relief efforts following disasters, and delivers training across the world.

Technical Support Service (TSS)

RedR's free online Technical Support Service can be used by all aid organisations and relief workers, working in the field. They aim to provide responses to all enquiries within 24 - 48 hours. TSS consists of a panel of more than 150 technical experts, many with extensive field experience, including engineers in the fields of water, sanitation and hygiene, public health, construction and shelter. It also covers areas such as logistics, security, alternative energy, finance, IT and communications.

How does it work?
Those seeking to use the service can do so either by filling out the online enquiry form or emailing the enquiry directly to RedR. The request will immediately be passed on to the relevant team of technical experts. The technical query will be researched and discussed before appropriate advice is offered via email.
