EWB-UK is an international development organisation which focuses on aiding development through community centred, sustainable engineering projects. They aim to improve the quality of life for disadvantaged communities through education, and by supporting new generations of motivated engineers.
The Happold Trust is a patron of Engineers Without Borders (EWB), which seeks to address the following core objectives:
- Support partner organisations worldwide by allocating work experience to young engineers.
- Award bursaries to individuals undertaking relevant research or projects.
- Host training courses nationwide, to raise awareness and develop skills.
- Encourage Universities to increase their focus on international development in their undergraduate teaching.
- Run outreach workshops in schools on issues such as water and shelter, to raise awareness for future generations.
One of EWB-UK's original founders is Tom Newby, a previous Happold Trust Scholar.
